UCOS Field Data Server (FDS)
The UCOS Field Data Server (FDS) directly scans supported I/O and communicates with devices that cannot be directly scanned.

The FDS is a controller and data concentrator in one unit and is particularly well suited for low point count applications and for use at remote sites.
The FDS runs the sequential and regulatory control schemes downloaded to it from the UCOS Engineering Workstation (EWS). It performs logic processing according to those schemes and in response to operator commands. It also directly scans supported I/O. (For more information about the controller functionality of the FDS, please see the UCOS Field Control Unit page.)
The FDS is also a generalized, flexible, and user-configurable application designed to interface UCOS to other control systems, proprietary protocol drivers, specialized software, and such devices as PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, intelligent valve controllers, Fieldbus, etc.
Software protocol drivers may be supplied by CSI or by other third-party suppliers. The protocols run as separate tasks on the FDS and communicate to devices external to the control system, such as PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, intelligent valve controllers, Fieldbus, etc.
The data exchanged with I/O, external devices, and other software systems is then "served" to the UCOS database so the data can be used by logic, graphics, and other applications executing in the UCOS environment.
Also, commands and set points initiated from the UCOS Operator Workstation (OWS) are routed to the FDS application which, in turn, routes them to the appropriate external application or device.
The FDS is typically run on a ruggedized industrial processor and has the following features:
- Supports both serial and TCP/IP connections
- Supports off-the-shelf, industry-standard ActiveX, OPC, and DDE drivers
- Communicates with any RS-232-compliant equipment
- Supports enabling/disabling of COM ports and polling lists
- Supports multiple ports
- Supports multi-drop slaves configuration on the
RS-485 communication bus line
- Allows creation of a poll list for each port
- Supports unsolicited write
- Can be supplied in a redundant configuration
